"Because you're my date." It was a modern word that he'd picked up from some of the more advanced residents of Caer Scima. He didn't ENTIRELY understand the concept yet but it would probably come with time.

"This might be a new concept to you, pirate, but you generally have to ask someone if they'll be your date. And they have to accept."

"Shouldn't you be asking Chloe?"

"Why should I be asking Chloe?" ...Did she know something Jack didn't know?

"Didn't you say you went and had a bath with her? Doesn't that make you guys..." She did a sort of motion with her hands. Come on, Jack. Figure it out.

"...Bath-friends?"

[isitapony]

"Mm, a bit more than that." Jack. Jack.

And he'd gone on a date with Buffy Summers, too. And asked Willow out for drinks. "Veronica, don't be jealous. All she did was scrub the hard-to-reach places. You can still be my date for the party! We'll have a great deal of fun, you and I."

Yeah, she snorted at that. "I'm not jealous, Jack. Jealousy implies that I want what they have." Look how much she doesn't want it, Jack. She's standing there in a bubble of not-wanting.

"So that's a yes, then?"

[isitapony]

"Why the hell do you want to go to a party with me? Aren't you sick of me yet? Or afraid for your life?"

"Because. No. Yes."

[isitapony]

He'd answered in progression and... okay. She grinned. He was an odd little man with odd little habits, but he somehow managed to make her smile. "And what if I don't want to go to some party?"

"But all ladies love parties! They love putting on frilly things and dancing about!" Stop contradicting everything he knows about ladies, Veronica. "Well then, I suppose...you shall say no to me. Again."

"Not all ladies like parties." Especially not this lady. "Where did you learn about women? Porn?"

[all7seas]

"You don't like parties?" Wait wait wait....what? "Why?"

[isitapony]

"Long story. Let's just say that bad things happen at parties. So, why would I want to go to one in a place where the moon can get stolen from the sky?"

[all7seas]

"Because I won't let any bad things happen to you?" How could he guarantee such a thing? They might have to run for their lives at this party. "And because there might be pumpkins lit on fire with little candles?"

[isitapony]

"There's always pumpkins lit on fire with candles." She couldn't say anything about the first part because a) she knew he actually meant it and he wouldn't want anything bad to happen and b) she also knew that he didn't control this world. So... it was a nice sentiment, but...

"And there might be toffee apples!" That was reason enough to go!

"So then go. Have your toffee apples and probably rum. I'm betting you'll drink anything fermented or that could otherwise be used as fuel."

"Right -- pick you up on the Pearl?"

[isitapony]

"You have this strange way of just... not really hearing anything around you, don't you?" She crossed her arms. "I'm not wearing a dress."

"Don't, then." He really wanted to win this one. "Not going to force you."
